The Incubator program management is looking for new colleagues

The IXAnext program: Talent for Innovation, that has been awarded by the Municipality of Amsterdam, supports the creation of an incubator, enabling scientists, students and professionals to start a (life-) science-based or technology company. The aim is to create companies with impact, resulting in e.g. increasing employment in the region of Amsterdam. The incubator provides technological and business knowledge to startups, practical support and a community where entrepreneurs, investors and mentors can meet.
In addition to the overall support program the incubator provides low-cost premises on or near the various campuses of the Amsterdam universities: the so-called Venture Studios.

The Venture Studio Manager is tasked with the success of a particular Venture Studio at UvA, VU/VUmc, HvA or AMC. This opportunity affords high visibility and responsibility as the VM works side by side with the Incubator Director and IXA leadership, helping early stage concepts through our training and mentorship driven incubation model.

The VM is responsible for the administrative duties, operations, location management and the promotion of our incubation program. You keep the trains running on time. During the “off-season” (not running a program), VMs have responsibilities/objectives that benefit the entire university ecosystem. Logistics experience as well as familiarity with the early stage venture backed company ecosystem is preferred. A willingness to learn and comfort tackling new problems is a must.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Engage with our startups and spin off and coordinate activities, meetings and events that drive them toward success;
  2. Keep the Venture Studio a clean and well run location at your campus; facility management;
  3. Follow best practices and execute upon outlined content and curriculum of the program;
  4. Share new best practices with the whole incubator team as you identify areas for innovation and improvement;
  5. Recruit companies, applications, and assist the incubator director with company selection;
  6. Represent us in local community, both actively and passively;
  7. Service the network overall on and off-season: assist in other programs, work on strategic initiatives and develop meaningful and beneficial relationships across the ecosystem;
  8. Develop an approach to safeguard sustainability of the incubator for the coming years.


Qualifications

  1. 2-5 years in fast-paced project or program management focused position;
  2. Strong interest and discourse competence around technology, startups, entrepreneurship, venture capital;
  3. Proven attention to detail through prior work or life experience;
  4. Experience in event planning and event logistics;
  5. Comfortable with a variety of responsibilities – VMs wipe down tables!
  6. Comfortable with a minimal amount of direction but high expectations;
  7. Fluent in English is a must.


The Venture Studio Manager will work for both UvA and VU and preferably starts October 2016 or as soon as possible. The Venture studio Manager will report to Erik Boer, director of Venture Studios IXA (ACE-Venturelab).

What do we offer

The gross monthly salary, based on a full-time appointment, depending on education and experience at the start of employment, will be between € 3,400 and € 4,654 (scale 11). Both UvA and VU offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including a spacious holiday arrangement and a year-end bonus. The Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities is applicable.

The appointment will be on a temporary basis for the period of one year. Extension for one year and then followed by a permanent employment, given satisfactory performance, is possible.
