Willem Fokkema

Willem Fokkema is working as business development manager at IXA office UvA-HvA.

He obtained his master’s degree at the University of  Wageningen. During his career in the food industry he has occupied positions in operations management, new business development, change management and sales & marketing. He was employed with Heineken NV, Friesland Campina and NIZO Food Research. He worked from 2003 to 2013 from his own enterprise as a business developer and start up manager for companies in Food, Feed and Life Sciences. As an entrepreneur he supported Ahold and Heinz in the development of their product innovations. In 2003, he founded the company Lactive with two fellow entrepreneurs. This company has developed new technology to isolate proteins with special health benefits out of milk.

Within IXA the Sciences Faculty of the University of Amsterdam is his focus area. In addition to the building of partnerships with companies he is co-director of the Life Sciences Center Amsterdam and organizer of the Amsterdam Science and Innovation Award. He is also co-director of the Innovation Lab chemistry Amsterdam in Amsterdam Science Park.

Willem is involved in advanced vocational education as an external expert in visitation panels of the Dutch Flemish accreditation organization (NVAO).
