Cellulose from natural biomass or waste streams is an ideal material for the production of base chemicals. At the chemistry department at the UvA two groups developed plans for this sustainable chemistry challenge; one team is focuses on optimizing a catalyst to convert the cellulose, while the second group aims at techno-economic analyses in order to determine a most economical pathway. In order to accelerate research funding industrial partners are needed.
