Companies in the D-Lab

TRITOS

Based on an advanced optical method, Tritos Diagnostics builds a device that quickly gains insight into cell structures. For example, you can see if cellular tissue exhibits benign or malignant cells. At the moment it costs a pathologist a few days to do such research. If we can reduce that time to seconds or minutes, maintaining the quality of work, we can work more precise in an operating room. With a special laser (a femtosecond laser with very short pulses) we can almost reach half a millimeter deep into tissue and see the cell structures very well. We are working to make our device mobile so it can be used immediately during surgery and we can help investigate how well the method used is. First results are very promising and also applicable to different types of cancer.

The company was incorporated after October 1, 2016, and can thus be considered as a D-Lab startup. The project, which aims at developing multimode microscopes for fast pathology investigations, has received support from IXA. The D-Lab offers a room where the team is developing part of the electronics.

SCITODATE

The idea is to provide scientists a web-based AI tool that indicates which articles they should read in order of priority. The group has already developed a prototype and is currently engaging innovators and early adopters, as well as potential partners. The company was incorporated earlier this year by a FOM-VU postdoc, and is a striking example of D-Lab start-up. The D-Lab currently gives the company logistic support (space and guest status), the use of computers, and access to the D-Lab network.
