Learning Path Valorisation and Impact

Ever think about the impact that your work can have outside of academia? Would you like to explore how you can increase the impact you’re already making? IXA developed a learning path on getting involved in valorisation and creating impact.

The Learning Path Valorisation and Impact aims to inspire researchers and create awareness about the importance of valorisation and impact. We offer a learning traject in which researchers can acquire the skills and knowledge required to successfully valorise.

After this learning path, researchers can start working on their own plan; an impact plan, a communication plan or business plan. The focus is on their own research or idea, which can further be developed into a service, product or for public outreach. The sessions are interactive with plenty of room for questions and collaboration with and learning from fellow researchers.

About the Learning Path Valorisation and Impact
The path consists of 3 modules; an introductory session, an indepth session and two sessions in which you work on your own idea.

  • The first one-hour introductory session is at your own knowledge institution and is given by an IXA Business or Impact Developer accompanied by a researcher who talks about his or her impact journey.
  • The second Module is a 3-hour in-depth session on valorisation, in which topics are addressed like: which valorisation form suits your idea or research best and how to get started.
  • In last module you will on your own idea or research in 2 sessions of 3 hours. You will further develop and concretise your idea. At the end of these sessions you will know how to achieve impact.

When?
Twice a year this entire Learning Path is organized. In fall 2024 all three Modules will be scheduled again. If you are interested, send an email to info@ixa.nl or stay informed by subscribing to the IXA newsletter.

For whom?
Researchers from Amsterdam knowledge institutions are welcome to join the learning path. The path is particularly suitable for late phase PhD students and postdocs who want to become proficient in valorising their research.

Max Nieuwdorp’s innovative research on gut microbes: a path to combat fatty liver disease

Internist Max Nieuwdorp, of Amsterdam UMC, discovered a few years ago that the microorganisms in the intestines of many overweight people produce alcohol to an increased extent. Breaking down excessive alcohol leads to fatty liver disease, which in turn poses a risk of serious conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Nieuwdorp has now received an ERC Advanced Grant of 2.5 million euros for a major study into the underlying causes of this excessive alcohol production.
