Ready to Start: low-key introduction to entrepreneurship for researchers
‘Ready to Start’ is a free, four-week online evening course offers an accessible and low-threshold introduction to science-based entrepreneurship for employees of VU, UvA, Amsterdam UMC, and Hogeschool van Amsterdam. The programme helps researchers understand how their research could translate into societal and economic impact.

This program helps you (researcher role) explore the entrepreneurial potential of your research in the setting of a free, four-week online evening course. That way you can learn to understand how your research could translate into societal and economic impact.
What?
The course is designed as a practical and approachable way for researchers to explore whether entrepreneurship could be a pathway to creating societal impact with their research — completely without obligation.
During the programme, researchers explore questions such as:
- What defines a startup?
- How can an incubator support me?
- Is entrepreneurship right for me?
- Can entrepreneurship coexist with an academic career?
Sessions cover key topics including:
- Starting a science-based startup
- Customers and competitors
- Funding and team formation
- One-pager and next steps
For whom?
Employees of the Vrije Universiteit (VU), Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA), Amsterdam Universitair Medisch Centrum (AUMC), and Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA).
When?
The format is designed to fit around busy academic schedules. Over the course of four weeks, participants attend a one-hour expert session every Monday evening (20:00–21:00). Optional Wednesday progress sessions at the same time allow participants to discuss ideas, ask questions, and explore potential next steps. Starting date? 8 June 2026!
