Why create impact with research?

Valorising your research offers many benefits. Collaboration with external parties brings new insights and scientific questions, expands your network, and increases your chances of securing funding. Moreover, your research contributes to a better society.

Examples of creating impact

Theologians working in a hospital setting, the set-up of a Centre for Global English, an AI application that combats human trafficking, an app that helps children with a mental disability to process information, or augmented reality improving the motor skills of Parkinson’s patients; these are just a few examples of the many applications resulting from research at Amsterdam’s knowledge institutes. Thanks to valorisation.

What is valorisation

Valorising research is the process by which scientific knowledge generates social and/or economic value. Research from all disciplines can be valorised; from the Arts to social sciences, from medical innovations to research done by law faculty or beta scientists. By valorising research, researchers create value for society and a positive impact on the future.

Valorisation offers opportunities

For researchers this process, from knowledge to application, provides many benefits. For instance, it can provide access to interesting data, new cases or new research questions, new contacts and funding opportunities. At IXA, we are happy to help you on your way.

Valorisation stories

Researchers who have completed their impact journey are eager to share their experiences. Watch their videos to learn about the steps they took, the challenges they faced, and the key factors that led to their success.

Ask IXA

Do you work at Amsterdam UMC, HvA, UvA or VU and have an idea – based on your research – that could benefit people, organisations or society? Have you been approached by a company or a organisation wants to collaborate with you?  Perhaps you have (important!) questions about knowledge or technology transfer and intellectual property (IP)? Maybe you’d like to start  an academic start-up and looking for a partner, grants or funding? IXA can support you in all these aspects of the valorisation trajectory.

During the journey from research to impact, the interaction between science and practice plays an important role. Transforming scientific research into concrete applications is tailor-made and centres around people. For researchers at Amsterdam UMC, HvA, UvA or VU, this process starts at IXA. For them, our services are free of charge. We’re happy to support you.
